These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your purchase of jewellery and use of services — including customisation, old gold exchange, repairing, polishing and ear piercing — at Sumitra Jewellers, Khordha ("Sumitra Jewellers", "we", "us", "our"). By visiting our store, placing an order, or availing any of our services, you ("customer", "you") agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully before making a purchase.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms apply to every purchase, order, exchange, repair, polishing job and ear-piercing appointment carried out at our showroom, over the phone, or through any other channel we may offer in the future. Visiting our store or engaging with our staff for any transaction is treated as acceptance of these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, we would ask that you refrain from proceeding with the transaction concerned.
2. Purity, Hallmarking & Pricing
We deal in gold jewellery of 22 karat and 18 karat purity and in sterling silver jewellery, unless a piece is clearly marked otherwise. Wherever applicable, gold jewellery sold by us carries BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) hallmarking, and the karatage, hallmark number and net weight are disclosed on the invoice.
The price of gold and silver jewellery is calculated using:
- The prevailing market rate for gold or silver on the date and time of billing;
- The net weight of gold, silver or gemstones used in the piece;
- Making charges, which vary by design, craftsmanship and collection; and
- Applicable taxes (GST) as per government rates in force at the time of sale.
Because gold and silver rates fluctuate daily, prices quoted verbally or displayed are indicative and subject to change until the point of billing. Gemstones, where used, are priced separately based on type, cut, clarity and weight, and certification is provided where available.
3. Orders, Customisation & Advance Payments
For customised or made-to-order jewellery, we will agree with you on the design, approximate weight, estimated making charges and an indicative delivery timeline before work begins. Because customisation involves manual craftsmanship, actual weight and finished appearance may vary slightly from initial sketches or reference images.
- An advance payment may be required to confirm a custom order; this is adjusted against the final bill.
- Advances on custom orders are non-refundable once fabrication has started, except where we are unable to deliver the piece as agreed.
- Delivery timelines are estimates and may be affected by design complexity, stone availability or seasonal demand; we will keep you informed of any material delay.
- Final pricing is confirmed only at the time of delivery, based on the actual weight and gold/silver rate on that date.
4. Delivery & Collection
Ready stock is available for immediate purchase and collection from our showroom. Customised pieces, repairs and polishing jobs are to be collected on or after the date communicated to you at the time of order. We recommend collecting jewellery promptly; items left uncollected for an extended period may be subject to a reasonable storage query from our side, and we will make efforts to contact you using the details you provide.
Please bring your original receipt or order token at the time of collection. Jewellery will only be handed over against a valid receipt, order token, or to the person named on the order, unless other arrangements have been confirmed with us in writing or in person in advance.
5. Old Gold Exchange & Instant Cash Against Old Gold
We offer to exchange your old gold jewellery towards new purchases, or to pay instant cash against old gold, subject to the following:
- Old gold is tested and weighed in your presence using our in-store testing methods, and its purity and net weight are shared with you before any valuation is finalised.
- Valuation is based on the tested purity, net weight (after deduction of any non-gold components such as stones, enamel or solder where applicable) and the prevailing gold rate on that day.
- You confirm that any gold or jewellery brought in for exchange or cash is lawfully owned by you and free of any encumbrance, and we may decline a transaction where ownership or authenticity cannot be reasonably established.
- Once you accept the quoted valuation and the exchange or cash transaction is completed, it is treated as final and cannot be reversed.
- Cash payouts against old gold are made through the payment mode(s) available at the store at the time, subject to applicable limits under law.
6. Repairing, Polishing & Ear Piercing
For jewellery repairing and polishing, we take reasonable care with every piece; however, older pieces, pieces with pre-existing damage, or delicate antique settings carry an inherent risk during repair or polishing, which will be flagged to you before we proceed. We will not be responsible for damage that results from a pre-existing weakness in the piece rather than any fault in our workmanship.
Repair and polishing charges are quoted before work begins and are payable at the time of collection, unless otherwise agreed. Ear piercing is carried out by trained staff using hygienic, single-use equipment. Aftercare instructions are provided at the time of piercing, and it is your responsibility to follow them; we recommend consulting a doctor promptly if you notice unusual swelling, pain or infection.
7. Returns, Exchange & Buy-Back
Given the nature of precious metal and gemstone pricing, jewellery once sold is generally not eligible for a cash refund. We do, however, offer the following, subject to the condition of the piece and our assessment at the time:
- Exchange: Unworn jewellery in its original condition, accompanied by the original invoice, may be exchanged within a reasonable period from the date of purchase, against other jewellery of equal or higher value. Making charges already paid are typically non-refundable on exchange.
- Buy-back: We may buy back jewellery purchased from us at a value based on the current gold or silver rate and the tested purity and weight at the time of buy-back, less applicable deductions. Buy-back value does not include the original making charges.
- Manufacturing defects: If a genuine manufacturing defect is identified shortly after purchase, please bring the piece to us with the original invoice; we will inspect it and offer a repair, replacement or other resolution at our discretion.
Any exchange, return or buy-back request must be accompanied by the original invoice. Custom-made pieces, engraved items and altered jewellery are generally excluded from exchange or buy-back, except where a manufacturing defect is established.
8. Payments
We accept cash and other payment modes made available at our showroom from time to time, such as card and UPI payments, subject to applicable transaction limits under law. Full payment (net of any advance already paid) is due at the time of billing, before jewellery is handed over, unless a specific arrangement has been agreed with us in advance.
9. Warranty & Certification
Where applicable, gold jewellery is accompanied by BIS hallmarking, and certified gemstones are accompanied by the relevant certificate at the time of sale. Please retain your invoice and any certificates safely, as they are required for warranty claims, exchange, buy-back and insurance purposes. Normal wear and tear, damage from misuse, chemical exposure, or alterations carried out by a third party are not covered under any warranty or goodwill support we may otherwise offer.
10. Limitation of Liability
While we take every reasonable precaution in valuation, craftsmanship and service, Sumitra Jewellers' liability in connection with any purchase or service is limited to the value of the specific transaction concerned. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, including loss arising from delay, except where such liability cannot be excluded under applicable law.
11. Store Conduct & Security
For the safety of all customers and staff, our showroom may be under CCTV surveillance. We request customers to handle jewellery on display with care and only under staff supervision. We reserve the right to decline service or ask a customer to leave the premises in case of abusive, unsafe or fraudulent conduct.
12. Intellectual Property
The Sumitra Jewellers name, logo, in-store branding and original design catalogues are the property of Sumitra Jewellers. They may not be copied, reproduced or used for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, pricing practices, or applicable law. The updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date, and continued use of our services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with a purchase or service at Sumitra Jewellers shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts at Khordha, Odisha, without prejudice to any statutory rights you may have as a consumer.
